Regional community conferencing

Overview

Regional community conferencing aimed to discourage first-time and non-serious offenders from repeat offending by providing community support and consultation.

The program was held in regional and remote Indigenous communities in Western Australia (WA).

The program trained approved Elders, wardens or significant community members to hold family group conferences in their community that aimed to deter youth from crime. Providing the training to Elders ensured that the conferences could continue in the communities without the presence of program facilitators.
