Care planning training trial

Overview

The purpose of this project was to enhance the delivery of mental health services to Indigenous Australians by the introduction of brief training sessions for workers in remote health centres.

Results suggested a decrease in the rate of relapse for those with mental illness in the Top End. It was recommended that further analysis by ethnicity and remote/rural/urban will assist in determining whether the effect is generalised. The change may be secondary to the inpatient initiative in combination with changes to care in the community such as case management and follow up, improved mental health literacy, and improved access and availability of services.
