The Quirindi Waste Management Project

Overview

The The Quirindi Waste Management Project aimed to increase recycling and reduce waste in shire landfill facilities. The project involved a partnership between Liverpool Plains Shire Council and the Quirindi Aboriginal Corporation (QAC).

The recycling service increased the volume of recycled materials collected by 88% since the project commenced. The project also allowed QAC to purchase a local landscaping supply business from profits earned from on-selling recycled products. Community members can now drop off waste and then pick up landscaping materials. The partnership has resulted in benefits to the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community, council, community residents, the local economy and to the environment.
