This litter reduction pilot program provides resources to nine East Arnhem communities in the Northern Territory to help them clean up, recycle and keep their communities clean for future generations.

The pilot program is funded by the National Bin Network and involves a partnership between the Keep Australia Beautiful Council Northern Territory (KABCNT) and East Arnhem Shire Council.

The pilot program enables KABCNT to work with the local councils, schools, community stores and environment groups to:

• introduce programs to reduce litter in the community
• recognise places where large amounts of litter is being left
• identify where the litter is coming from
• put together a community clean‐up plan which looks at infrastructure, service, awareness and education
• have a community clean-up event and ask for volunteers
• identify the bins the communities need and install them
• make sure that materials for recycling are taken to the correct recycling facility and that any rubbish is disposed of in the correct way
• check progress and measure results achieved.
