Julian Burton Burns Trust: Aboriginal strategy

 

Overview

The Julian Burton Burns Trust's Aboriginal strategy education programs aim to raise awareness of fire related hazards, fire risk management (prevention and planning) and first aid for injuries. The focus is remote Aboriginal communities in South Australia where Aboriginal children are 25 times more likely to suffer life threatening burns compared to Aboriginal children living in an urban area. Many of the programs are delivered to school aged children, families and educators on specific burns prevention in their community. The activities are age appropriate, for example, using puppets for the younger children and quiz show style lessons for young adults at the VibeAlive festival in Port Augusta.
