The Pilbara housing strategy, run by the Gumala Aboriginal Corporation (GAC), is designed to ensure that GAC members, who comprise Indigenous traditional owners and their families, have access to affordable rental accommodation. The project involves sourcing land and constructing appropriate residential accommodation for GAC members to rent in the Pilbara region of Western Australia (WA).
GAC is committed to a five-year plan to construct approximately 150 homes in WA by 2016, and is looking to share the costs of building with the State Government, as well as identifying reputable firms to provide their goods and services at fair rates.
