Carpentaria Shire Council youth support services

Overview

The Carpentaria Shire Council of Queensland provides support services for local young people. The Shire employs a Youth Support Officer to design and implement projects for young people. These projects include an Out-of-school project, and an In-school project.

The Out-of-school project operates with assistance from Centacare, and aims to support young people who are disengaged from school, or at risk of disengaging from school. This is achieved through:

The In-school project involves the delivery of short lesson based sessions, including cognitive behavioural based workshops based on the 'Peer skills' and 'Stop, think, do' templates addressing bullying, fighting and solvent use. The Youth Support Officer receives assistance in delivering these sessions from Queensland Police, Oxfam, Queensland Health and Centacare.
