Life Matters for Koori Youth in the Western Riverina

Overview

This joint project between the Murrumbidgee Division of General Practice (now known as Murrumbidgee Primary Health Network) and the Griffith Aboriginal Medical Service aimed to raise awareness of the self-harming and suicidal behaviours experienced by Koori youth.

The program focussed on the professional development of community workers to enable them to recognise and support young people at risk. In addition, young people aged 14-25 were encouraged to participate in a suicide prevention program with a foundation in art.

The project was developed with a whole of community approach to improve mental health outcomes for young Indigenous people.
