Southern Queensland Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander ear health program
Overview
The Southern Queensland Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander ear health program aims to raise awareness of ear health issues, specifically otitis media, to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people residing in Southern Queensland.
The Southern Queensland Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander ear health program aims to:
- provide hearing screening service to primary school children in the Southern Queensland region
- provide speech pathology services (non-clinical) to build capacity in providers working with children up to the age of 6 years old
- facilitate the provision of audiological services to preschool and primary school aged children
- build capacity in other providers (EQ, nurses, parents/care givers) to manage ear health (including speech) in their service areas
- collaborate and form partnerships with other providers to address ear health in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children
- advocate and promote ear health for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children to the wider community.
