Overview

Stagpole Street drug and alcohol rehabilitation unit (SS DARU) is operated by the Congress Community Development and Education Unit Limited, and has run since May 1998. The unit offers residential alcohol and other drug rehabilitation services, predominately to Indigenous people who make up approximately 80% of their client base. The unit specialises in offering culturally appropriate services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who's lives are, or have been, negatively impacted from substance use.

The unit's purpose is:

• to improve and develop a service that addresses the needs for rehabilitation from the effects of substance use
• to promote SS DARU as a professional therapeutic service whilst maintaining a culturally sensitive and appropriate environment
• to develop an understanding of the rehabilitation process through community networking information.

Services offered include:

• detoxification and withdrawal program
• rehabilitation program
• aftercare support services
• case management and support programs.
