Just one less

 

Overview

Beyond Empathy's Just one less project is a community art project, which ran for over a year in Armidale in northern New South Wales (NSW), finishing in 2011. The project, which was initially called 5 in a row, was recognised in the community as Just one less and aims to raise awareness about binge drinking in the community, and to encourage different ways of thinking about the consumption of alcohol. As part of the project, Beyond Empathy hosted an alcohol-focused youth forum led by a panel of young people. The project culminated in a three day celebration including:

In 2011, the Just speak up project was initiated, building on the work developed in the Just one less project. Just speak up will aim to continue to work with the community to engage young people and help expose the issues around youth binge drinking. This will be achieved through artistic mediums, allowing community members the opportunity to express themselves through the art form of 'spoken word' or 'poetry slam'.
