Victorian Aboriginal Health Service youth justice project

Overview

The Victorian Department of Justice funded the Victorian Aboriginal Health Service (VAHS) to participate in the Victorian Aboriginal Health Service youth justice project research project, which investigated Koori youth and the juvenile justice system.

A VAHS researcher, with the assistance of the VAHS Youth Justice Steering Committee, spoke to community members about initiatives and programs which aim to reduce the negative contact of young people with the justice system. The discussion included youth workers, justice workers, Elders and youth. This project aimed to help the Department of Justice and the Koori community develop and build upon programs which aim to reduce contact with the juvenile justice system.
