The Remote-I program aims to reduce preventable blindness in remote areas by using a low cost, high quality eye screening system that gets around the problem of specialists travelling to the bush or patients trekking to the city.
A web-based system captures images from an eyescan device and pictures of patients' eyes are sent over a broadband connection to city specialists.

The Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) is working closely with consultant ophthalmologists as well as Port Hedland hospital, Western Australia (WA) Department of Health and WA Country Health Services. This research is supported by funding from the Pilbara Development Commission's Royalties for Regions program.
