My way: youth program for remote Cape York communities

 

Overview

The My way project began in 2004 and took place in the Cape York Peninsula area of Queensland. It was run by Queensland Police and Citizens Youth Clubs (PCYC). The project aimed to:

The project used structured activities to help Indigenous adolescents obtain social, emotional, ethical and physical competencies. Young people were engaged in team and individual skills-development activities including sports, art and crafts, cultural and youth development.

An early intervention and prevention model was developed as part of the project.

The project was funded by the Department of Family and Community Services.
