The Clontarf Aboriginal College (WA) safe driver education program was developed to counter the unsafe and unlicensed driving practices of young people at the college, especially those from rural and remote communities where the lack of resources and expertise to provide safe driving opportunities has limited the ability of communities to respond to this growing problem. A partnership between the college, the Police and Citizens Youth Club, Rotary Clubs of WA and the Royal Automobile Club of WA provides, training for students to pass the provisional licence test; qualified training instructors; road safety workshops and voluntary supervisors for students to gain driving experience. The National Australia Banks Schools first awards will provide funding for the purchase of a vehicle for the program.
