Remote Indigenous Energy Program

Overview

The Remote Indigenous Energy Program aimed to help Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities access affordable and reliable 24-hour power supplies, contributing to an improvement in health, education and long-term economic capabilities.

The program was initiated in 2012 and provided funding to install renewable energy generation systems in approximately 50 remote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. Training in basic system maintenance and the provision of information for energy efficient practices to encourage ongoing energy management was also included.

This program aimed to build on the completed Bushlight program which has provided reliable and affordable renewable energy systems to very remote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
