Overview

Aboriginal road safety was identified as an area of priority for South Australia's Health in all policies (HiAP) initiative which is part of the South Australian strategic plan. This HiAP initiative provides the framework for cross-government partnerships which are often complex to develop. One of the key issues to be addressed through the Aboriginal road safety - a health lens project is the obtainment and retention of a drivers licence for Aboriginal people which has an impact on education, employment opportunities, incarceration, and family activities. Diversionary programs instead of harsh penalties will also be examined.
