Danila Dilba Health Service received resources to develop and implement an alcohol and other drug (AOD) project in two town-based communities in the Northern Territory. The project was developed as part of the Northern Territory Emergency Response, and funded by the Australian Government.
The aim of the project was to provide assistance to individuals, families and the wider community to ensure effective and culturally appropriate AOD support services were being delivered to Indigenous people in the identified communities. The project team ran culturally appropriate community health days with a focus on abstinence from alcohol and other drugs, as well as consultations and collaborations with community members. The program also provides health promotion services, and promotes access to appropriate AOD treatment and rehabilitation services.
