Overview

The Indigenous and Remote Eye Health Service (IRIS) is involved in a number of projects across Australia which focus on the eye health needs of rural, remote and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. The objectives of the projects include:

• developing and supporting eye health services
• delivering outreach cataract surgery to remote communities
• developing tele-medical programs so that optometrists and ophthalmologists can offer services from their own locality
• establishing eye theatres
  
• establishing eye health treatment programs for very remote and/or ageing communities
• seeking funding for new and ongoing projects.
