The Pilbara Aboriginal eye health program aims to assist Indigenous people living in remote communities in the Pilbara region of Western Australia who suffer from diabetes and related blindness from diabetic retinopathy and cataracts.
With support from BHP Billiton Iron Ore, the Lions Eye Institute (LEI) has appointed a program coordinator who is responsible for:
The program has enabled the LEI to collect and analyse data on the extent and severity of blinding eye diseases in this region, and assist others to improve the health of Indigenous people.
