Description

This guideline, produced by the Department of Health, provides information to help environmental health agencies and local authorities to investigate and manage asbestos issues in non-occupational environments.

Non-occupational environments are defined as a setting or activity that are not covered by occupational health and safety legislation, for example, materials containing asbestos in and around the home, land contaminated with asbestos or the removal, handling and disposal of materials containing asbestos.

The document outlines the health risks associated with materials containing asbestos, help in detecting asbestos, how to identify a hazard and assessing and managing risks.
