Description

SHine SA is the principal organisation in South Australia for sexual health. SHine SA seeks to improve the sexual health and wellbeing of South Australians by working collaboratively with: the government; health, education and community agencies; and communities.

SHine SA provides a range of services including:

• clincial services - sexual health clinics are located throughout metropolitan Adelaide and are staffed by doctors, nurses, and sexual health counsellors;
• counselling services - professional counsellors are available to offer confidential, therapeutic counselling;
• education - a range of workforce education, community education, and health promotion activities are available that seek to improve the sexual health of South Australians;
• Sexual Healthline - a free service whereby sexual health nurses answer questions relating to any sexual health issue;
• resources and library service - accessible to workers and the community; and
• leadership and advocacy for sexual health.

SHine SA also works to improve the sexual health and wellbeing of marginalised communities including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. SHine SA endeavours to achieve the following aims with regard to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples:

• provide culturally appropriate and accessible sexual health services, information, and resources;
• provide accredited sexual health education and training, and offer professional support, to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander workers;
• involve and support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander workers in education, prevention, and promotion programs that build the capacity of the Indigenous communities; and
• strengthen partnerships and networks with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, communities, and organisations.
