The Australian Government's Department of Social Services (DSS) exists to support the Government and, through Ministers and Parliamentary Secretaries, to deliver on a broad range of social policy outcomes.
The department aims to be Australia's main source of advice on social policy and works in partnership with other government and non-government organisations to manage a range of programs and services designed to support and improve the lives of Australians.
DSS was previously known as the Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs (FaHCSIA).
