Aboriginal Heritage Office

The Aboriginal Heritage Office (AHO) monitors Aboriginal sites on a day to day basis to ensure long term preservation and protection of these sites.

The AHO is a joint initiative by the Lane Cove, North Sydney, Manly, Warringah, Willoughby, Pittwater, Ky-ring-gai and City of Ryde councils.

A key role of the AHO is to give the Aboriginal people and non-Aboriginal people involved with councils areas an avenue of approach to discuss issues or concerns they may have.

In association with the local councils AHO conducts talks, walks and activities to enhance appreciation of Aboriginal culture in the wider community. The office also has direct contact with the Metropolitan Local Aboriginal Land Council and its many resources.

The AHO also provides training for council staff in Aboriginal sites awareness.
