One Disease at a Time

Description

One Disease at a Time is a non-profit philanthropic organisation that aims to systematically target and eliminate neglected diseases from Australia.

The organisation's first initiative is to eliminate crusted scabies and scabies as public health issues. Scabies is a highly contagious skin disease, which has reached epidemic proportions in many remote Indigenous communities. Eliminating scabies significantly reduces the flow on effects for down-stream conditions such as rheumatic heart disease and kidney failure. One Disease has partnered with Indigenous communities in East Arnhem land, to implement the East Arnhem scabies control program, which aims to address the inequality between the incidence and prevalence of scabies and skin diseases among non-Indigenous and Indigenous Australian communities.
