AFL Cape York

Description

AFL Cape York (AFLCY) was established in 2003 with the main purpose of coordinating the Australian Football League (AFL) Kickstart program among primary and secondary children in the remote Indigenous communities of Cape York. AFLCY staff travel to 25 Cape York and Torres Strait Island communities implementing sporting and lifestyle programs as a vehicle to address health and educational issues.

AFLCY is presently building a residential facility for young men from remote Indigenous communities. The facility called Cape York House is being built in Cairns, with completion expected in 2013. More than forty students will live at Cape York House and attend local public secondary schools.
