Description

This organisation ('the Board') is responsible for nationally registering Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health practitioners. (From 1 July 2012, health workers in Australia who wish to use the protected title 'Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Practitioner' must be nationally registered.)

The Board is also responsible for:

• developing standards, codes and guidelines for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health practice
• approving accreditation standards and accredited courses of study
• registering Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health practice students
• handling notifications, complaints, investigations and disciplinary hearings
• assessing overseas trained practitioners who wish to practise in Australia.

The Board was established in July 2011. It works in partnership with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
