Lagaw Gub

 

Description

Lagaw Gub is the first Torres Strait Islander education kit and has been developed as a way to share information about the rich cultural heritage of Mua Island and in particular the work of Dennis Newie.

Lagaw Gub means 'Island Wind' in the language of Mua Island, St Paul in the Torres Strait.

Lagaw Gub is designed to be used by teachers wishing to embed Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives into their classroom practice.

The Lagaw Gub kit includes:

The resource is available for teachers to teach the Lagaw Gub songs and dances throughout their teaching careers.

Lagaw Gub was initiated by the Creating pathways project and further developed by BlakDance Australia Ltd, with support from the Australia Council for the Arts and Ausdance National.
