Better start for children with disability

Overview

The Australian Government has committed $147 million over four years up to June 2015 for the Better start for children with disability initiative, which builds on the success of the Helping children with autism package.

Eligible children are aged under six years and have been diagnosed with:

• Down syndrome
• cerebral palsy
• Fragile X syndrome
• a moderate or greater vision or hearing impairment, including deafblindness.

Those in outer-regional, rural and remote areas will also be eligible for a one-off payment of $2,000 to help with the costs of accessing services.

The Better start for children with disability package will be evaluated to consider extending it more broadly.
