Sexuality & relationships education for school educators - university unit
Overview
Target audience: Primary and high school educators concerned with the emotional, social and physical aspects of child and adolescent development in terms of intimate relationships, and sexual well-being
Course summary: This unit can be taken at an undergraduate or post-graduate level, and via cross-institutional enrolment. It aims to increase confidence and capacity as a Sexuality and Relationships Education (SRE) educator. Topics covered include:
- handling sensitive issues and creating a safe classroom environment
- enhancing relationships in the classroom
- teaching controversial issues
- sexual health
- strategies that affirm gender and sexual diversity
- planning and implementing SRE
- strategies for engaging with parents and the wider community
- linking topics to the National Curriculum
- agencies that support teachers.
The unit is offered at undergraduate level during semester, and at a postgraduate level in a 5-day block.
