Induction training for new alcohol and other drug workers (ST222)
Overview
Target audience: New workers in the alcohol and other drug (AOD) sector who have a role in responding to AOD issues with clients
Course summary: This course provides participants with foundation knowledge and skills required to work effectively with clients presenting with AOD problems. Course core topics include:
- models and frameworks for understanding and assessing drug using behaviour
- strategies for reducing drug-related harm
- pharmacotherapy treatments
- an introduction to statewide Aboriginal services, programs and resources
- AOD counselling skills, including motivational interviewing, problem solving, goal setting and relapse prevention
- working with comorbidity
- family inclusive practice
- professional practice issues and worker self care
- working in partnership with other key service providers such as Department for Child Protection and Department of Corrective Services.
