Course summary: This course provides participants with the skills to contribute to care planning for residents and clients who have dementia, with contemporary, evidenced-based care strategies. Course core topics include:

• professional issues including an overview of ethical and evidence-based practice in dementia nursing and professional/legal documentation
• delirium: causes, prevention, and care
• non-Alzheimer's dementia including Lewy body disease, vascular dementia, Creutzfeldt Jakob disease, and Pick's disease: symptoms and care strategies
• Alzheimer's disease: possible causes, symptoms, and care
• depression: contributing factors, symptoms, and care
• dementia: symptoms and the care for each symptom
• identifying and understanding behaviours such as aggression, wandering, and sexual responses.
