Target audience: Enrolled nurses
Course summary: This course provides participants with the skills to contribute to care planning for residents and clients who have dementia, with contemporary, evidenced-based care strategies. Course core topics include:
- professional issues including an overview of ethical and evidence-based practice in dementia nursing and professional/legal documentation
- delirium: causes, prevention, and care
- non-Alzheimer's dementia including Lewy body disease, vascular dementia, Creutzfeldt Jakob disease, and Pick's disease: symptoms and care strategies
- Alzheimer's disease: possible causes, symptoms, and care
- depression: contributing factors, symptoms, and care
- dementia: symptoms and the care for each symptom
- identifying and understanding behaviours such as aggression, wandering, and sexual responses.
