Overview

This course offers the judiciary in the "Murri" courts the ability to offer a diversionary program to offenders when considering sentencing. The judiciary will be able to direct a person to attend this course that has been developed, and is delivered, in a culturally appropriate manner acceptable to these persons. The course is aimed at encouraging the Indigenous person to obtain and maintain a current driver's licence, enabling them to seek employment opportunities in order to improve their well-being and that of their families within these communities. Importantly, it is also aimed at helping the Indigenous person avoid custodial sentences and further confrontation with the judiciary system by building understanding and changed behaviour in a way that promotes self-esteem.
