Overview

Target audience: Workers who have contact with people experiencing mental health issues

Course summary: This course provides participants with the skills to assist with the recovery process and day to day needs of people living with a mental illness, whilst also providing information on how workers can provide the best support. Course topics include:

• a different perspective on understanding mental distress
• what can impact on wellbeing, mental health, and recovery?
• supporting physical, social, spiritual, and emotional health
• supporting self-advocacy
• responding to extreme distress
• the importance of trauma in recovery
• what is duty of care, dignity of risk, and positive risk-taking?
• getting connected to mental health services
• practical skills in supporting people with mental illness.
