Target audience: Anyone over the age of 18

Course summary: This course provides participants with the skills to assist an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander adult who is developing a mental health problem or in a mental health crisis. The course aims to cover Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander social and emotional wellbeing, mental health problems in communities, and mental health first aid strategies for working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. Course core content includes:

• depression
• anxiety
• gradual onset psychosis
• substance misuse
• suicidal thoughts and behaviours
• non-suicidal self-injury (sometimes called self-harm)
• panic attacks
• traumatic events
• severe psychotic states
• severe effects of drug or alcohol use
• aggressive behaviours.
