Aboriginal Health Council of South Australia Training and Education

Overview

The Aboriginal Health Council of South Australia (AHCSA) currently delivers the following courses:

1. Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAA40104)
2. Certificate IV in Indigenous Research Capacity Building (30586QLD)
3. Certificate III in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care (HLT33207)
4. Certificate IV in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care (Practice) (HLT43907)
5. Certificate IV in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care (Community Care) (HLT44007)

AHCSA has included the first 2 qualifications on scope in response to community request and strategic directions.

The HLT07 courses are core business - as AHCSA trains Aboriginal Health Workers across South Australia (with an exception for the APY Lands as Nganampa Health Council delivers and trains its own AHW's).

AHCSA is currently delivering programs through Tobacco Action Workers, and a Sexual Health program promoting health in the communities.

AHCSA also has 3 separate units as a skills set or cluster on its scope for training in Chronic Illness Self Management. These units are:

1. CHCICS406A: Support client self management
2. CHCICS407A: Support positive lifestyle
3. CHCICS408A: Provide support to people with chronic illness

AHCSA also delivers a short course in Good Medicines and Better Health - which has 3 new units on Hypertension, Asthma and Diabetes.

Three burns units for the promotion of burn safety and responding to burn wounds are about to be accredited, and will be available upon request to other Aboriginal Community Controlled RTOs.
