Quitskills for Remote Communities

 

Overview

The Quitskills for Remote Communties training is a component of Cancer Council South Australia's Quitskills program, a nationally recognised smoking cessation training program. Quitskills provides participants with the confidence to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to think about their smoking and support them with any changes they wish to make.

The Quitskills for Remote Communities training is aimed at Aboriginal Health Workers and those working in remote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

The training consists of a two-day classroom based training, as well as the provision of necessary support for participants to organise and run a community information session to share the skills and knowledge learnt.

The training focuses on supporting smoking cessation and providing participants with the knowledge, skills and confidence to share information on smoking and smoking cessation. The training is tailored to the context of a remote community setting. The course covers a range of topics, including:

There is currently only one workshop planned for Western Australia, but more may become available later in 2018. Quitskills is a free course, however please note that registration is essential.
