Overview

The Bentley Health Promotion Network, part of the South Metropolitan Public Health Unit (SMPHU) is hosting a workshop focusing on promoting Indigenous health. This workshop will provide a forum for people to share information about health promotion programs and resources specific to the area of Indigenous health.

HealthInfoNet Cafe

The workshop, held at the Bentley Technology Park on Monday 22 June 2009, provided an opportunity to showcase new Indigenous health promotion programs and resources for people working in Perth's South Metropolitan health area. There were around 40 participants from a range of health-related agencies.
In a lively workshop, participants heard about a range of program and resources, including:

• The South Metropolitan Public Health Unit's (SMPHU) Indigenous health promotion programs;
• A three-day basketball camp organised by the Nyoongar Sports Association and the SMPHU to engage coolangars (young people) in the South Perth region;
• The South Metropolitan Health Area Service's Reconciliation Action Plan;
• The Nyoongar diabetes awareness and health promotion activities of Diabetes WA;
• The Indigenous programs and services of the Canning Division of General Practice; and
• The Heart Foundation's new My heart, my family, our culture resource.

Neil Thomson, the HealthInfoNet director, gave a presentation about the HealthInfoNet's new site, and conducted a small HealthInfoNet cafe.
