The Early Childhood Intervention Association (ECIA) WA Chapter and the Telethon Kids Institute are hosting three workshops with Professor Carpenter for people working with children/adults with Fetal alcohol spectrum disorder (FASD) or children with complex learning needs.
Workshop one: FASD in early childhood: intervention and action - 25 August 2014
This interactive workshop will focus on determining starting points for profiling personalised learning in this group of children; and illustrate how key strategies generated from evidence based, inquiry focussed practice, can offer a framework for planning learning. Emphasis will be placed on practical strategies that practitioners can take away and immediately incorporate into their work.
Workshop two: New generation children: the challenge of complex needs - Monday 25 August
This workshop will discuss research that has charted the learning and developmental pathways of this group of children across a range of schools and early childhood settings in the UK and internationally, including Australia. With a key focus on engagement in learning, new evidence has emerged on effective educational practice which will support and guide practitioners, and enhance educational opportunities for this group of young children.
Workshop three: Improving the learning and life outcomes for children and young people with FASD - Tuesday 26 August
This workshop will consider the information available on young people and adults with FASD and provide opportunity to discuss and reflect on strategies that can be utilised to ensure the best outcomes for this group of young people.
Registration closes 21 August 2014.
