Indigenous ageing: tools for better practice

 

Overview

Older Indigenous people in Australia and New Zealand represent a growing proportion of the Indigenous population with distinct healthcare and social needs. The lack of specific, validated assessment tools creates problems in helping Indigenous communities to manage dementia and other conditions associated with ageing. This reduces access to mainstream and specific programs of health service delivery, despite the higher level of actual need.
