Building a research program in Aboriginal health: lessons from the edge

 

Overview

This forum will be presented by Professor Alex Brown, South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute (SAHMRI) Deputy Director, Aboriginal Research Program Leader.

Professor Brown has extensive experience in Aboriginal health policy, particularly relating to chronic disease control, men's health and primary care with ministerial appointments to several key national committees. His research targets overcoming disparities in health outcomes for Aboriginal people, with a particular focus on chronic disease. He has been a collaborating CI on grants worth over $18 million in the last 5 years. In addition, he has been a principal investigator on grants totalling $5 million in the last three years. All of these grants are related to the principal multi-disciplinary research program addressing cardiovascular disparities in Aboriginal Australians. He was recently appointed to Research Committee (NHMRC).
