7th Michael Kirby lecture

Overview

The topic of this lecture is Indigenous Australians and the constitutional project: the politics of discrimination, and why 'recognition' is not enough. This lecture will consider the most recent constitutional project: the 'recognition' of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in the Constitution of Australia. Professor Davis will explore the politics of racial non-discrimination in the current constitutional reform process and explain why 'soft' recognition - the trend in State Constitutions - should be disavowed.

Speaker:
Professor Megan Davis, Director, Indigenous Law Centre, University of New South Wales.
