Life promotion clinic seminar

Professor Diego De Leo, Director, Australian Institute for Suicide Research and Prevention invites you to this seminar series held at Griffith University and presented by Prof Jose' Bertolote.

This presentation will review data from the World Health Organization Mortality Data Bank highlighting the overall trends of suicide around the world. The data shows that these trends have been decreasing in the last 10 years after a period in which they increased globally. The downward trend is observed for both males and females of all ages, with the exception of young age groups. A possible relationship between these changes and national strategies and initiatives for suicide prevention will be explored.

Presenter: Dr Jose Bertolote
Dr Jose' Manoel Bertolote has been interested in suicide prevention all along his career as a psychiatrist. From 1989 to 2008 he was a Senior Medical Officer at the World Health Organization (WHO) Headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, where he established the global WHO Suicide Prevention Programme. Currently, he is Professor, at AISRAP (Griffith University), and Associated Professor at Botucatu Medical School, in Botucatu, Brazil. Dr Bertolote has published more than 100 articles, books, monographs and book chapters.

RSVP by Monday 21 May 2012.
