The Council of Australian Governments (COAG) held its 28th meeting in Brisbane on 7 December 2009. The outcomes from the meeting relating to Indigenous issues are outlined below.

COAG agreed to a new National Strategy for Food Security in Remote Indigenous Communities. This includes specific actions to increase healthy food consumption and reduce the diet-related burden of disease for Indigenous people in remote Australia. The Strategy will be piloted in up to 10 remote Indigenous communities, commencing by March 2010.

The launch of the first report from the Coordinator-General for Remote Indigenous Services on 4 December 2009 was noted by COAG. The report recommends improved coordination of Commonwealth and State service delivery in the 29 priority remote communities.
