Nessa J (1994) Dental caries in child dental health surveyed NSW school children: a correlational and developmental study. Unpublished Master of Public Health thesis, University of Sydney, Sydney, New South Wales.

The purpose of the present study was to investigate dental health and dental caries especially, in NSW school children attended the School Dental Service (SDS), by identifying groups and locations at high risk. The study also sought to obtain information about the frequency of dental visits in DSD, and to monitor the progress of SDS. The NSW strategy and the National goals and targets for the year 2000 and to study the dental caries rates over a 22 year period in a defined period (1977-1993).

Specifically, the study examined any significant differences in the distribution of dental caries as well as dental visits which may occur because of gender, any significant relationship between dental caries and age; any significant differences in dental caries and frequency of dental visits with different ethnic groups; any significant differences in dental caries prevalence and frequency of dental visits among children in metropolitan, rural and mixed areas; and any significant differences in dental caries prevalence between fluoridated, partly fluoridated and non-fluoridated areas.
