Health is life: report on the Inquiry into Indigenous Health. May 2000
A three year Inquiry into Indigenous Health has now been completed. The Committee tabled the final report on June 5. The report emphasises the need for Indigenous involvement at all levels of the health system and highlights the need for different funding models to achieve long-term improvements in health status.
Included in the report are 35 recommendations that address issues surrounding:
coordination, planning and delivery of health services;
Indigenous health services and community control;
housing and infrastructure services;
cultural, educational and employment issues as they relate to health;
health professional issues;
research and data collection;
and other important health issues.
