Framework Agreements

The Agreements on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health (Framework Agreements) are the primary vehicle for ensuring collaboration in resource allocation, joint planning and priority setting for service delivery between key stakeholders in Indigenous health within each state and territory.

The Framework Agreements website has been developed for individual states and territories to provide information regarding Framework partners, Agreements, other related documents, and key organisations. Some information is currently available for some states and territories.

Noongar Family Diabetes Project

The Noongar Family Diabetes Project is a joint project of Southern Aboriginal Corporation's Family Futures Program, the Central Great Southern Community Health Services, and the ECU Centre for Public Health.

The project, which is funded by the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) in conjunction with the Office for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health (OATSIH), aims to develop with the Noongar people of the Central Great Southern region of Western Australia a family oriented comprehensive diabetes intervention model transferable to Aboriginal communities in other parts of Australia.

Sustainable Communities Network

The Sustainable Communities Network is set up to identify and develop effective interventions and key research priorities to address health inequalities in Australia’s rural, remote and Indigenous communities that are based on sustainability.

Those who become part of SCN will together determine its shape and direction and will be involved in identifying and developing the key interventions and research priorities.

Office of Aboriginal Health (Western Australia)

In 1996, the Department of Health in Western Australia established the Office of Aboriginal Health. Its charter is to work in partnership with Aboriginal communities and health service providers to ensure that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (ATSI) people receive culturally appropriate health care that meets their needs.

To achieve this objective, the Office of Aboriginal Health works within government to manage the financial, physical and human resources necessary to improve the health care and health status of all Aboriginal people.

The HealthInfoNet has also assisted the Crippled Children's Association of South Australia in the development of a website (http://www.wired.org.au) to assist allied health professionals (particularly physiotherapists, occupational therapists and speech therapists) working in remote areas with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with a disability.
