Katherine Renal Dialysis Unit
The Katherine Renal Dialysis Unit is located at Katherine Hospital and was set up in May 2000 to accommodate the needs of the local Jawoyn Aboriginal people who previously had to relocate to Darwin for ongoing haemodialysis. The unit has 4  treatment stations with one spare machine in case of breakdown. Staff includes a renal trained Aboriginal Health Worker, renal trained Registered Nurses, an Enrolled Nurse and Orderly.

Non-government organisations

Australian and New Zealand Dialysis and Transplantation Registry
The Australian and New Zealand Dialysis and Transplantation Registry (ANZDATA) Registry records the incidence, prevalence and outcome of dialysis and transplant treatment for patients with end stage renal failure. Data is collected by circulation of printed survey forms for each patient at six month intervals to all dialysis and transplant units in Australia and New Zealand.

Australian and New Zealand Organ Donation Registry
Australian and New Zealand Organ Donation Registry (ANZOD) collects and records data on all organ donors after death, and also collect a wide range of statistics that relate to organ donation. The website provides access to the ANZOD annual reports, monthly data collection, as well as downloadable forms for organ donation.

Australian and New Zealand Society of Nephrology
The Australian and New Zealand Society of Nephrology (ANZSN) believes that general practitioners have a lead role to play in the early detection of kidney disease by regular blood pressure monitoring and a yearly protein urine dip stick screening test for risk groups. The website provides information about membership, events, meetings, guidelines, fellowships and grants, and clinical trials.

Australian Medical Association
The Australian Medical Association (AMA) is an independent organisation which represents more than 27,000 doctors, including general practitioners, specialists, teachers, researchers, and doctors in training. The AMA, a peak health advocacy organisation, exists to advance the professional interests of doctors and the health of the community. The Association has developed a position statement on preventable chronic disease strategies in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Centre for Kidney Research
Situated at Westmead's Children's Hospital, Centre for Kidney Research (CKR) endeavours to bring the most rigorous and up to date research methods to the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of diseases of the kidneys and urinary tract. CKR seeks to address questions which are relevant to patients and provide answers which will influence better health outcomes.

Cochrane Renal Group
The Cochrane Renal Group is housed within the Centre for Kidney Research at the Children's Hospital at Westmead. The Group's scope covers a number of major areas in renal disease such as acute renal failure, chronic renal failure, dialysis (peritoneal and haemodialysis) renal transplantation, renovascular hypertension, glomerular diseases, urinary tract infections, and nephrolithiasis.

The Institute has eight research divisions including: cardiovascular; health policy; injury; nutrition and lifestyle; and renal.
The George Institute was established in Sydney, Australia, in response to the growing worldwide burden of non-communicable disease and injury, particularly in the Asia-Pacific region.
In April 2004, the Institute opened an office in Beijing, China. Another subsidiary in Hyderabad, India was launched in 2007. Since its establishment, The George Institute has launched research, policy development and training initiatives in over 40 countries, with the collaboration of more than 400 hospitals and universities worldwide.
