National organisations

Australian Centre for Diabetes Strategies
The Australian Centre for Diabetes Strategies come about in response to an identified need for health service research and development dedicated to diabetes. The focus of the Australian Centre for Diabetes Strategies is on population health improvement. The key strategies adopted to achieve this revolve around health service development and research, and the development, implementation, analysis and evaluation of practical strategies, programs, and policy for diabetes.

Australian Diabetes Educators Association (ADEA)
The Australian Diabetes Educators Association is Australia's peak professional organisation in diabetes education. It promotes best practice diabetes education to ensure optimum health and quality of life for all people affected by diabetes. The Association accredits courses in diabetes education across Australia; sets standards of practice in diabetes education; provides training packages for generalist nurses, practice nurses, Indigenous health workers and allied health professionals.

Australasian Diabetes in Pregnancy Society (ADPS)
The Australasian Diabetes Society is a professional body established to advance clinical and scientific knowledge of diabetes in pregnancy, to encourage dissemination of this knowledge and to foster collaboration with other regional societies interested in diabetes in pregnancy. It is also involved in the development of health policy regarding diabetes in pregnancy at the National and State levels.

Diabetes Counselling
Funded by the National Diabetes Service Scheme, this site provides a private counselling service by email, discussion boards and an email buddy service for people with diabetes and/or their family and friends. There is a chance to share experiences of diabetes and hear other peoples stories. There are also links and information on various support services in each state.

Immunology of Diabetes Society (IDS)
The Immunology of Diabetes Society is an international collaborative initiative set up to advance research related to the etiology, pathogenesis, prevention and cure of type 1 diabetes. Baker IDI Heart and Diabetes Institute
The Institute was established in 2008 following the merger of the Baker Heart Research Institute and the International Diabetes Institute. Aboriginal Eye Care Clinics - NSW
Aboriginal Medical Services have established eye clinics across New South Wales. Since many Aboriginal people are losing their vision because of preventable or treatable causes (such as diabetes), the NSW eye clinics are designed to combat this problem.  The clinics provide eye care and vision correction, including spectacles and other optical aids, within Aboriginal community controlled health services. The eye clinics at NSW Aboriginal community controlled health services are in Walgett, Moree, Wellington, Bega, Nowra, Redfern, Wagga Wagga, and Kempsey.

West Australian Diabetes Strategy
An initiative of the WA Department of Health, The West Australian Diabetes Strategy involves the planning and delivery of diabetes prevention and management. American Association of Diabetes Educators (AADE)
The AADE is a multi-disciplinary organisation representing healthcare professionals who provide diabetes education and care. Membership is open to all health professionals with an interest in helping people live full and productive lives. The AADE is dedicated to advancing the practice of diabetes self-management training and care as integral components of health care for persons with diabetes, and lifestyle management for the prevention of diabetes.

Kidney Health Australia
The Australian Kidney Foundation has provided more than six million dollars for medical research programs in hospitals and universities and plans to increase this support. The Australian Kidney Foundation's mission is to be recognised as the leading non-profit national organisation providing funding for, and taking the initiative in, the prevention of kidney and urinary tract diseases.

Australian Podiatry Council (APodC)

It is an independent body that aims to promote the health and well-being of all Australians. International Working Group on the Diabetic Foot
The International Working Group on the Diabetic Foot provides an online document that aims to provide guidelines for prevention and treatment that will reduce the impact of diabetic foot disease, by means of quality health care with consideration of costs and using the principles of evidence based medicine augmented with expert opinion. In the document, the basic concepts in diabetic foot care are addressed, with clear description of the various diagnostic, preventive or therapeutic strategies. Furthermore, the organisation of care and the implementation of the guidelines are described.
