An Internet Café was conducted at the recent Third National Indigenous Environmental Health Conference by Sandy Angus and Jen Irvine from the Australian Indigenous HealthInfoNet. Held at Rydges Plaza, Alice Springs from 14-16 November 2000, the conference built on previous workshops in Broome and Cairns. For many Environmental Health Workers the tyranny of distance is a real factor in accessing services and support. Times such as conferences provide ideal opportunities to exchange ideas and 'catch up' on what else is happening around the country. The aim of the Internet Café was to enhance Environmental Health Worker support by raising awareness of the role of the Internet in accessing information and assistance, and by enhancing and broadening knowledge and skills in information technology. The inclusion of an Internet Café at this conference was the initiative of the Environmental Health Branch of the SA Department of Human Services. Financially supported by the Commonwealth Department of Health and Aged Care and delivered by Sandy Angus and Jen Irvine, the Internet Café was set up to contribute to a recommendation from the Second National Indigenous Environmental Health Conference regarding 'Greater Support for Environmental Health Workers'.
